Ive never ridden here, or even heard of it, but i read it and it just pissed me off how the same people that let them do it could ruin it in a matter of hours after all the bloddy hard work thats been done. [:(]

hey man i am one of the builders and we been doing it for 3 years we even had verbal permission from the fc but they moved the goalposts and now the chainsawed just about everything man it sucks.

anyway would be good if you guys could sign our online petition maybe if we all get together we can save this and more shore sites

by the way the max hieght they say they allow is 1.5 metres but they took all our stuff down even jumps etc

and also how we meant to progress the sport and ourselves if we cant build big (not stupid but doable)

TO progress you need to be able to build as big as you want, that goes without saying.
You can make smaller sections that are more technical, but that's beside the point.

The FC seem to be getting themselves a huge amount of negative PR out of this, which can only be a good thing if they decide to change their policy on trashing (lets face it, it wasn't demolished, chavs coiuld have done a better, tidier job) NS etc.

I don't want to get anyones backs up, i'm just getting into XC riding myself, but it seems that the FC are a bit concerned that if someone is injured, or worse, then it is the FC who are held accountable as it is their land. Maybe the key to building higher and more technical and extreme north shore is to build on private land, and land not owned or controlled by the FC.

Having said that I don't know how the FC operate and how private land would operate, so I would appreciate no personal finger-pointing towards myself for any incorrect assumptions!

Also - having read the chainsaw massacre article it seems as though the FC could have at least dis-assembled the trails more responsibly, at least so more timber could be salvaged or at least re-built elsewhere!

I was involved with the building from the start and have to say I'm gutted! Not only did we have verbal permission, we had written permission in the form of an email too. Only problem was we did not have a signature on the written forms. Now I know Ryan and Malkygee were trying for over a year to get a meeting sorted with the fc without luck. But despite not being able to arrange that they can arrange for four vans of workers with chainsaws to rip the place apart with only two days notice. Apart from the destruction its self, its the way the fc went about things that leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
I can appretiate that the fc do have concerns about injuries happening on their land, but the style of the trails left you in no doubt about the type of riding involved from the start. Also, if you are riding a hard-hitting freeride/downhill bike with a full-face helmet and armour, you surely have to accept that there is going to be a danger element involved and give up your right to sue/blame anyone other than yourself. Its hardly the sort of setup you use to ride down to the shops!

The forestry don't actualy need PR. Negative or positive. The forestry is the forestry. They're a public body with a budget and a customer base that doesn't realise that they're customers. Any negative PR will be with a small number of people in a niche of a niche sport. Whatever happens, you cannot hope to match wills with the timber industry, tourists and dogwalkers.

If the forestry can't see a way to make significant volumes of money out of something, they'll not want to have the insurance burdon and the trail will go.

I agree with you there Alex.
But if the forestry guys had told the guys that build it 'look, sorry, but we're going to have to dismantle your work', in a professional, reasonable way itd have been far more understandable.
Rushing in with no warning and literally hacking it down to the floor and leaving it to be cleared up is disgraceful, and whoever is responsible should be ashamed.
