Stans No Tubes... they hate me...

So... as a reward for my exam on friday i decided to spend my day making my wheels tubless with Stans no tubes (standard size)
Looking forward to never having a puncture again and being bored, i'd watched the instruction video and read the instructions about 50 times..... so i thaught i was pretty set...

After drilling my rims (and having to buy a whole set of drill bits, cause homebase don't sell single 9mm bits), bloody traumatic taking a drill to your bike by the way...

I soaped up my wheels, tires and the new tape...
I fitted and pumped...
but nothing!
they won't inflate AT ALL.... and they're bubbling like some creepy circus act...
and lets not mention my hands now smell of s**t from all the hitting of my tires (as Stan told me to do in the video)

so....
Getting to the point...

The site says the new stans rim-strip (the bit which makes your rim air-tight) should fit under the beadlock...
however as you can see, if one side of the stip is up against the beadlock.. the other side (as seen in the pic in the link below) is quite a way off...

So is this the problem?
and can i make it work with a thicker rim tape underneath?

(i'm using Mavis 317 rims with the standard yellow, quite thin rim tape... and attempting to fit non-tubeless Schwalabe Nobby Nic and Racing Ralphs... the notubes site says i should be using the standard size notubes pack and shouldn't have to do anything with my rim tape...)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks.

so, did you watch the video closely. What you need to do is, take a plastic tyre lever and push the rim strip to make it fit evenly across the rim, that way you can stretch it a bit if necessary. I guess you're running cross country rims and tyres. I was sent the freeride strips 'cause thats what they said would fit my sun mtx rims but needed the dh strips. These work fine. Once you have the strips fitted evenly you can try to inflate your tyres. With mine I have car type valves on the dh strips, so I removed the core and blew up with an air compressor and then quickly put the core back. Then I could inflate with a track pump to correct pressure.

Ande - The only reason this isn't deleted is because you've got a useful post in response.

I used little **'s to block out the swearing
    :(

ofcourse i fitted the strips evenly (the pics is just to show how they don't seem to be big enough to make contact with the threadlock on both sides)
But even with the strips fitted evenly they don't seem to pump up... i might try removing the core next...
cheers and sorry for my blasphemy.. shocking..

ande your rims are 317's so they dont get much narrower than that, so like I said push the strip towards the gaps and they should stretch enough.
