I've got a 2006 big hit 1 and i've had it since xmas last year...and whenever i go over a root or some sort of bump the back end makes a sort of clunking noise that doesnt sound too healthy... i was wondering if anyone else has encountered this and if so how the fck do you make it shut up?

Is the spring correctly preloaded? The spring can sometimes make a noise if its off line or becomes coil bound.
Also, check that the shock bolts come out easily. Bent shock bolts can make a racket.
Take the wheel out, check the bearings for play or lateral movement. Do the same with all the frame bearings.
Its not your seat rails is it? Im assuming you dont sit down over bumps...
It could also be your BB, in which case youll be needing a new one shortly.

If you're not too sure about bike things, it might well be an idea to take it into your LBS, they can have a look at it and figure out the problem, it might cost you a bit of money but in the long run it is a much better idea.

check for cracks, although big hits are fairly strong frames, it could be a possibility.

i think i may have a similar problem, except in my 06 big hit 3 which ive had 6 weeks now.
it appears to be like, stiction in the bushings, but only to compress from being fully extended, all the bolts come out easy and are tight, but its making a definiate click as it begins the travel. [xx(]

I've got an 06 bighit and don't know if its the same as yours but I had a similar sort of thing after a couple of rides.
I emailed specialized, and they replied saying its nothing to worry about just stiction in the bushings. They advised me to put about 1 or 2 TINY drops of oil around the pivot bits, and its been fine ever since.
