Thought i'd decided on the Kona Caldera for my new bike, but being bored i've just been looking at other bikes, which as it has turned out was a big mistake as i've just found the Focus Black Forest (and am now in two minds AGAIN!), which is cheaper and seems to be decent spec. Have done a search but there's no results. Anyone know anything about them?

IIRC, wiggle are the exclusive sellers of focus bikes this year, or i may be wrong. They're supposed to be quite good, and they are reasonably specced. Then again, same with teh kona. What i would have said, of you werent going mail order is to try riding both, and try it out, but in this case, i cannot.

yeah thats the problem! i've tried the kona at my local shop, but like you say wiggle are sole stockists of focus bikes, and unfortunately they're based at opposite end of the country to me!0

I've just been looking on internet to try to compare the spec of the Focus and the Kona, and the only forks i can find that match the ones on the Focus have an rrp of over œ300 (Manitou R7 Super), can these be the right ones? If so, surely that, along with a matching / superior spec in other areas, and a cheaper price, would make the Focus a better option? Wouldnt it?0

Forks are better, but I hate the Magura Julies.
I think I'd probably get the Caldera anyway and put the œ75 I got towards upgrading the forks.

BTR, why dont you like the brakes? What do other people think of them? So if i was to upgrade the forks to some worth around the œ200 mark, which ones would you suggest? Also, would it not be easier/cheaper to change the brakes?0

My mate has one on the back of his jump bike.
It just feels really naff and fake to me.
Its hard to describe. It doesn't feel like the brake is working when you pull it.
You're right, the brakes would be cheaper to upgrade.
I have Avid Juicy 5's on my bike. I've used many different brakes, but the power and the modulation and just the lever feel of the Juicys is the one I prefer. They are an acquired taste though.
And if I was to upgrade my fork for around œ200, I'd get the Marzocchi All Mountain 2006 - 130mm travel.
