after a slight accident today, ive managed to bend the rotor on my mechanical disc, it needs new pads and the cable has started to fray, rather than buy all these parts new, im going to upgrade to hyrdo.

I have about œ100 to spend, im looking at either a Juicy 7, or a mono Mini.

I ride street and occasionally dirt jumps. any recommendations?

Juicy 7's are apparently a fantastic brake, but i can't help thinking that they are overkill for street and DJ'ing. Many people on the forum run OEM juicy 3's or 5's and have no problems with them.

It would mean you could spend money on other areas of your bike aswell.

what about a BB5? are they any good, just to keep with the simplicity of a mechanical brake?
the thing is my lbs only has the juicy 7 and hope mini, so id have to wait a while before i can ride again, as im currently brakeless

I'd buy a complete set. I wouldn't fancy having different lever shapes and different braking feel from either side of the handlebar. Shimano Deore, or if you can stretch, XT for an extra œ25.

Unless you only have the one brake in the first place?

I would upgrade to hydro whilst you can justify it. There is no point in buying a mechanical brake and then upgrading while it is still working. If you get what i mean?

Have you got any friends with either of the hydro brakes? Juicy 7's are probably the best on the market for that price range but then again i swear by my Hopes. I've never had a problem with them yet i have always thought they were a little over priced compared to their rivals.

At the end of the day, it is entirely up to you.

All the people i ride with have mechanicals, i can get them a bit cheaper with staff discount at the shop. so it will be a little bit less, and cheaper than CRC.
Will a 185mm rotor be overkill on my bike?
