Ok, since i've finished school, and i need a job, would it be worth applying in Halford's? I know how shit they are, but i'd much rather do something i enjoy over sitting behind a counter in tesco's for hours on end. Advice appreciated.

Generally Halfords is not that bad it tends to be the staff having no idea about things that puts people off.
If you know your stuff then it should be good.

Part time in Halfords is fine. However, all of the full timers I know hate it, I was also included in said group.
If your employed on Bikehut, thats all you'll do apart from occasional till work, unless its a smaller store.

I work in Halfords.
I started out as a part-time bike mechanic, although now i'm moving more into management as i'm currently a supervisor.
To be honest, it's not that bad, the pay isn't too cruddy, most of the people who work there are alright, if you've got a good store you'll get some great nights out and the 15% staff discount is quite handy.
Interview wise, show that you already have a bit of bike knowledge (although the more you show the better, but don't be bernard mathews!y), dress reasonably smartly (shirt and jeans and smart shoes is ok), and be positive and friendly. If you just sit there saying yes/no you don't have a very good chance.

Hey my local one actually has bikers working there too.
I bought the missus a not a bad component Saracen hardtail for her to learn on, and guess what? I had to sort out the gears, brakes and even tighten the quick releases before we went on our first ride.
My friend bough his Scrap from there, and guess what? The mop haired idiot (see my next paragraph) said that if he bought it today , he would PDI it *properly* and that he would chuck in 2 years free service. This was despite my mate stating he was an ex motorbike mechanic and brainy cycle tech guy!??
The mop haired idiot- he apparentlty worked there to get a load of bikes cheap. He had a œsilly thousand carbon bugaboo that he smashed up hitting a car that he pulled on. He also had a Big Hit with the totem upgrade, this and that and bells on. Asked if he could wheelie- he said no. Asked if he could track stand- he said no.
Maybe it was all sales patter, but boy oh boy did the lad make himself look like the biggest nobber going. It's only cos my mate really wanted his Kona hoodie free (and some other bits) he got it.
SO if YOU work there- don't bull shat someone who knows more than you cos you just look even more stupid than saying "hey man, i just sell bikes."

Which Halfords will you be going to? The one in Kingsteignton needs some decent staff, There all stuck up nobs IMO.
They must have some scam running in there, I take my bike in there to get it repaired and they get it repaired fine and then fiddle with the gears so I now can't use 2nd!

i used to work in halfords on bikehut. i used to quite enjoy it.
we had an old bloke who knew everything about bikes, me (i think i know enough about bikes to work on them), a fulltimer that knew sweet fa and a part timer who was similar in competance to me
plus as i work in a garage i got staff and trade discount on some bits
if the manager wasnt in we would all just relax and ride around on the bikes when nobody was looking.
