What size frame?

I'm looking at getting a Specialized Hardrock, but having a bit of a dilemma about the frame size. I am 5'10, with an inside leg of about 32" - Mr Average. I take a size medium in pretty much everything! The Hardrock comes in a 17" frame or a 19" frame, and I have tried them both, and both feel OK. The 17 incher is obviously smaller, but with I can get a good comfy position on both frames. I intend to use the bike for the commute to work and for cross country/trail riding at weekends.
Obviously the smaller frame is going to be lighter, but as a relative newbie I don't really know what the advantages/disadvantages of having a smaller frame bike are.
Any help/advice much appreciated!
Thanks

I'm 5ft 10 and ride a 17inch rockhopper and own a 17inch sport. Love the size, easy to chuck about and looks far better in 17inch

If you feel that you want to chuck the bike aronud a bit more than normal, a 17" frame would be better.
If you only ever intend on using it for XC and commuting, I'd personally go for the 19".

the seat tube length is not important, you can adjust the seat post. Its the top tube length that matters. If you are comfortable with the 17" then go for it.Some new frames seem to have longer top tubes because a lot of people want smaller frames but dont want to bang their knees on the bars0

i'm ~6ft and ride a 19" HR, if it's for anything more than XC i would go for the 17" as it'll handle better, and you can always raise the seat on long rides
