What about a rear linkage? I'm considering doing something on that for A2 physics investigation (although it won't be actually making it for me).

Sometimes it overheats. You have to make sure it's in a ventilated place all the time.

i have considered everything suggested so far.
the cnc at my sixth form is basically non existant so a
rotor is out the question. we just have mechanical laithes etc.
i guess i could cast some brake levers, but theres not that much
to actually design, is there?
i suggested a rear linkage/frame to my teacher and he said it was way too complex. although i would love to, making it might be a bit hard. i guess i could make it, but itd probably be corr blimey.

Bike repair stand?
Bit boring but practical, thats what I made for my GCSE Resistant Materials.

stem possibly, or a finishing kit, bar ends , seat clamp, top cap ect.

Chainguide would be good, and you could easily make one for cheap, even with a poly carbonate bash... I'd think about doing a proper sealed one though rather than two plates and roller style ones.

ignore your teacher go for it. in my exam i was told id never finish building in time but i was and a*'d the exam so do whatever you think0 -
i am thinking a frame/linkage is a bit OTT, for A level as we dont have any proper equipment. save that for uni.
ill make a chain device i recon.
im thinking of a carbon fibre backing plate, but i havnt researched to see how fesable that is without breaking the bank.

yeah, made it all. disk rotors out of titanium (30hrs each). bmx cranks.and machined several castings mainly bmx. if you only have manual machinery what about a bottom bracket difficult but you'ld get an A.Or a handlebar stem on a manual mill would be easy as. As far as disc rotors go get a fanuc robodrill they do them in 3mins in stainless of course.0

i dont think id get an A for a bottom bracket. maybe full marks for making, but design wise i imagine there isnt much to design to do at all.

Especially a BMX BB.
Nothing to it.
Yeah, go for the Chain Device. Its complicated enough to have lots of design, but its simple enough to be able to finish.
Go for it. Pics

you could start designing now and save time.

I made a bashring, which is as simple as bike components come and I got full marks for the entire coursework. Also ended up with my project being put on an exhibition of excellence run by the exam board.
Just goes to show, don't discount anything just from your initial thoughts. As long as your design work shows justification of every decision you make in the design then it's fine.
