Entry level road bikes?

I know this is an MB forum, and i've not posted here for ages.
I'm looking at getting a road bike, but because i've only ever hard dirt jump / free ride rigs etc i'm pretty clueless with regard to road bikes.
Anyone know where I can have a look online at some cheapish rigs? Im talking between 250-450 pounds just to get me going, and if anyone has any brands I should look at, or avoid, that would be great.
