What tyre pressures do people run for XC use?
I was running between 20 and 25 psi, but having pumped them up a lot more the other day, I noticed that they now offer a lot less rolling resistance (obvious really), So I was wondering if there was a rule of thumb about tyre pressures that I'm not aware of....

i go for about 30 psi. althoguh ive got a mate that runs his at 60 psi so its all down to preference. i like a bit of give at the back as im on a hardtail.

About 35ish on a full susser. Anything less then that and i don't like cornering.

i would have mine at 40psi on my hardtail, although i am more inclined to all mountain that xc0

I run about 40 on front and 45 on the back on my full suss. You don't need the extra grip from low pressures when you have 5" of it at the back and front. On the hardtail its about 30

hmm...looks like i run my pressure higher than most on my ht0

Like said, each to there own, and to a certain degree the track too! Localy I ride with fairly low pressure as its absolutly covered in jaged rocks, roots etc...

FS - 40 PSI
HT - 30 PSI
SS Rigid - 40+ hate getting punctures on this as they are a biatch to fix0 -
ht 45-50
fs 50-55He who fishes in another man\'s well often catches crab.0 -
For XC rigid I go for the max 65PSI. Rather uncomfortable but lots of speed.

Sometimes it overheats. You have to make sure it's in a ventilated place all the time.

On my FS:
40psi - Smooth XC - Nice and fast
35psi - Rough XC - Not so fast but more grip
30psi - AM - A little bit of drag but loads of grip on roots and rocks.
55psi on my HT but mainly use it for commuting and bridle paths.

I used to be undecided but now I'm not so sure!?

75psi all round on a hard tail, makes it fast and loose & I don't seem to suffer from "Snake Bite" punctures.0
-
I used to go for for about 70+psi, but running that on a hardtail at all shock absorbant.
Now im around 45psi front and 55psi rear

Between 50 and 60psi on my hardtail. Gives a much bumpier ride on the trails, but it makes getting to the trails that much more bearable. Also, since using high pressures, I have yet to get a snake bite puncture, despite failed attempts at hopping over gnarl.

depends on the tyres
40-50psi for a semi slick tyre, bit higher at the frnt as there is suspension

Between 50 and 65 psi front and rear. Don't have a problem with snake bites at that pressure.
I did roll a rear tyre off the rim with 40 psi in it once hence the higher pressures now.

I ride a hardtail and i run my tyres as hard as i can get. Last time out i had front softer than usual and had tyre come off rim. Thats probably the only time i did that so its back to rock hard tyres for me. As for pressure's 'Rock hard = no punctures & less drag'

Been running my XTC at 40psi F&R. Surprised by some of the pressures posted here. I may try upping it a bit, then!0
-
So I'm the only one who simply keeps them 'pretty solid' by the thumb test?I'd give my right hand to be ambi-dextrous0
-
I just squeeze them. If they feel ok, I ride!0

Ive noticed the newer xc tyres have a lot higher pressures on the side of the tyres than they used to 40-60 instead of 30-40 (back in the day )
Racing last night I tried to only put about 40 in (lower end of the scale) as there were loads of d/hill off camber rooty hairpins, but im guessing the guage on my pump is way out, as there was def more than 40 in there...anyone know of a reliable guage for skinny valves??dont knock on death\'s door.....
Ring the bell and leg it...that really pi**es him off....0 -
I have a hardtail and run:
55 psi roads
anywhere else 35 front and 40 on the rear2011 Genesis Core 500 -
-
55psi hardtail 2.2 tyresI have pain!0
-
It depends on what tyres I'm using, but as XC is all about speed and rolling resistance drops the higher the pressure..... therefore
I run approx 5psi below max on the rear and 15psi below max at the front.0
