Thanks to the help from you lot i've made my mind up which bike to buy, but my mate is still pondering. What is the Scott Scale 50 like? Anyone know? Spec etc all looks the same as other bikes in the œ750 price range, but i don't know what frame is like. Is it a good bike generally?
Cheers

I'm confused. You want to buy the bike, but your mate isn't sure if you should?

It's because muslims are far more into amateur pyrotechnics than christians.<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote"></center><hr noshade size="1">

What does anyone reckon on the Scott as opposed to the Specialized Rockhopper Comp Disc? Same money but which one to spend the cash on?

I have the 2006 Scale 50. This bike is fantastic, prepared to go very quickly!
The riding position on the Scale is designed for fast XC racing, which means it's not the most comfortable on a long ride. It's very light.
If I choose again, I would choose the Scott! I've also noticed that the 07 version is a lot cheaper than the 06 version.

I've got a rockhopper and love it too bits but given the choice again i reckon i would get the Scott to be different. Its also lighter i believe

Yep I've got a 2005 Scale 50, I started off using it for long xc and commutes into college, and I've gradually turned it into a tarmac muncher. 1.6" slicks, higher gearing and harder brake pads. I've done over 4000 miles now according to the computer, and the bike still looks and rides new. (could be something to do with the œ160 I spent on her recently!)
I'd say that as a starting point its a good bike. Easy to make changes. just ditch the standard forks for something more specific to what you want to do (I'm going to rigid carbon forks). the standard forks on mine at least (manitou axel comp) are too heavy for road/xc use and too stiff for serious off road.
