New Hardtail on a budget

Hey guys and girls,

I'm sure this sort of question has been covered countless times before, but here goes.

I've been out of the mtb game for a few years and am getting back into the saddle.

Got a budget of œ1000 to sort myself out with a suitable hardtail for XC and road use, taken rather a liking to the Gary Fisher Big Sur but would like to consider other options, Kona, Specialised etc.

Any suggestions from the people in the know would be very welcome

All have great specs for the money, the Big Sur is also a good choice. Test ride them all, see which you prefer.

I'd look at getting one of the above, I know the price says its œ1200 but i have seen them for less.
If not the standard Kula is a good ride.
