Here's the situation:
On Wiggle I can get the Kona Caldera for œ750, with œ75 of free gear. "Great" I thought, until I went into my local shop which is a Kona dealer, and he has said he'll sell me the Kona Kula (rrp œ900) for œ800. But I obviously wont get any free gear, so in effect i'd be paying œ875 for a bike and clobber instead of œ750.
So my question to you lot is...Is it worth paying the extra œ125 for the Kula? What I really mean is, is the Kula actually that much better than the Caldera?
Sorry if this is a bit confusing!

What's the free gear?
œ75 isn't much to set you up with the essential stuff...

Just says œ75 so i'm assuming anything. I know its not a LOT, but it's still a fair amount.0

If it was based solely on what bike, the Kula isn't THAT much better than the Caldera, apart from the forks.

I ride a caldera frame (but not the built up bike, so cant comment on components) But it is indestructable. Cant fault the frame but its proibably marginally heavier and marginally stronger then the kula. Kula is xc race machine, caldera is more hardcore hardtail. Depends what you want it for.
The Kona0 -
Yeah the guy in the shop said the Kula is 4 pounds lighter, which to me being a novice doesnt seem to be a problem. I really like the look of the Caldera too. I wouldnt be racing on it or anything like that, just going to the Lake District, forests etc, so would the Caldera be more than suitable for that?0

neither at the moment, its my first bike (well first since is was 15 and thats a fair few years back!). but i like to think that i'd be putting it to thes test - i certainly wont just be using it to ride along the local cycle path on a sunday morning!0

The caldera seems a more versatile bike than the kula, though it weighs more and has a much worse fork. Buying the caldera and swapping the fork for something better like the tora for an extra few pounds would be a good deal.
WD-40? GT-85?? I'd rather use the old AK-47!0
