Pace rc39 any good?

I'm tempted to get my dad a Pace RC39 100mm fork for father's day.
He's the one who got me into biking all those years ago, and he's always lusted after Pace forks.
BUT, are they any good these days? I don't want to buy him something that's going to need constant maintenance, or that's going to start leaking straight away.

1999 marin wolfridge, Marzocchi Jr Ts, Saint cranks, D321 rims, Hope C2s, raceface bits and bobs, XT running gear. All vintage stuff! (apart from the saints)

I've got a mate who swears by Pace forks. He's currenly running the RC41's with no problems and he's and 18st Giant. Oh, their customer service is spot on too.

They are really nice, plush and very light, but generally quite high maintanence. (read this as unreliable)

What kind of maintenance is commonplace then? new seals? new bushings?

Pace did a good job of making sure that build quality was top notch in 07. Plus their customer service is second to none. Buy some quick, before DT Swiss change the graphics!

They'll probably only get fairly light use from my father anyway, and he's pretty damned good at fixing things, so they should be fine I suppose.
He doesn't ride half as hard as he used to after fracturing a vertebrae in Coed y Brenin a few years back.

Having seen some photos of the 08 version i would agree. The new graphics are horrid.

If he is only a light rider then they will be great, they look awesome and they are light, where as when i went to buy my bike the bike shop took one look at me and said i would ruin them[V], so i got revelations instead.

ive had some rc36 stealths since new (about 3 years) and think they're great. Ive had no problems other than the lockout engaging on a 4 ft drop and the top of the leg coming through the crown! D'oh! was still able to ride them back to the car. Phoned Pace, drove to their factory near scarborough, had small factory tour, met the guy who was going to fix them and talked the problem through with him. Ended up getting the lockout removed (and given a new one to retro-fit if i wanted) new oil and seals etc. All in all a top notch service. Only took a day too! Really like the forks tho, nice and light, cope with a fair bit of abuse and they're still buttery smooth.0
