My understanding is that it is more "Peadophiles to be offered chemical castration" than "Peadophiles to be 'chemically castrated'".

But to accept that you have to accept that paedophiles might not want to like fiddling kids.

This follows on from the whole discussion in the media recently about people who look at child pornography being given therapy to make them understand it's wrong rather than being jailed!

It's just getting ridiculous!

Yes, but what does sending them to jail achieve? The crime doesnt fit the punishment and its easy enough for the pedophile to serve his time and then start the kiddie fiddling when they get out of jail. At least therapy tries to change their attitude and make them realise it is wrong.

OK - her's an interesting point. Under the usual obscene publications legislation of the UK child pornography is defined along the lines of indescent photography/video of persons appearing under the age of 18.

Therefore I can marry a 17 year old and keep a photo of her topless in my wallet legally. if I show that photo to anyone else I can be convicted of distributing child pornogrpahy and I'm on the sex offenders list for three years.

I'm not condoning paedofiles or paedofilia but we're getting close to a witch hunt now.

To be honest, the chemical castration is a better idea than jailtime, there really is no achievement in sending someone to jail, all it does is bumps up our taxes, and stretches the already overpopulated jails even more. chemical castration will mean these people can go out and work. meaning we're not working our arses off to pay for their upkeep.

Im not supporting anything but I think its ludicrous to assume that they will all be repeat offenders, especially as we do not know all the circumstances that these things happen. No not along the lines of i slipped and it fell in, as that jsut doesnt happen.

Yes paedophilia is wrong, and sick in a way but i honestly think that it should only happen to repeat offenders. The first time should be dealt with as it presently stands IMO.

I honestly don't know.
My presumption is that it's not so much a love of kids as the feeling that there's nothing inherently wrong with it. In which case the feeling up of them can be, to a paedophile, entirely morally correct but illegal. In much the same way as pot smokers feel it is their moral right to smoke pot.

But I don't know, and it's _really_ difficult to find any material on this that isn't just regurgitation of the Mail's "Kill 'em all" proposals.

A pot smoker has the right to abuse there own body. A paedophile has no right to reck the lives of children and there familys. They most certainly have made a conscious disicion and still act againts the way society expects us to behave.

We all have urges to do things we shouldn't.
eg: "I feel like giving that person on the tube a good kicking because he looks like a jemima, but I can restrain my self because I am not an anti-social human being"

Putting them in prison is a short term solution to reducing the risk they pose to society. Cutting the tackle of would be the only definate solution.
