Why not just use the active topics page, so you only see topics that have been posted in since your last visit?
FWIW, I don't see any compelling reason to remove any of the stickies. It keeps them somewhere easy to get at, and I presume most of the forum have found the active topics page by now anyway.

could they not just archive the posts from the stickies and then put a link forwarding onto them, rather than filling the 1st page with all the stickies.0
