I have downloaded some music, and it has these files, how do I convert them into a format such as .mp3?

I'm not quite sure of the point of flac myself.
I've read the marketing gibe, but it sounds the same as mp3's to my ears, and takes up huge amounts of space

FLAC is under-rated, the sound quality difference is vast compared to even my 320Kbps mp3 files. Don't convert, just download the codecs.
