70-100 does that include the cost for getting the bb shell faced?

well it needs about œ600 of tools. LBS time.
if you get the crankset from them get them to face and fit included in the price if you can.

well ask your lbs how much for facing the bb shell.
do you have the tools needed for removing your old setup? and do you have the tools for the HT2 setup?

If you buy the xt factor in replacing the rings after about 6 months or a winter.

from what ive heard the xt is just slightly lighter than the lx. ive had lx on my bike for 5 months and they've been great.

How about Race Face?
Would it be perhaps worth stretching the budget?

No just get a LX, far better bottom bracket. No problems with mine other than the middle ring being made of something closely resembling a rotton banana and wearing out quickly but then for the sake of about 10 grams, a steel Deore one is the answer. I have basically identical Hones on another bike and again no problems

I have the LX set on mine at the moment and they are working very well, but have been badly scratched up. i was looking at the Hone chainset as they look just as nice and should be compatible with my current setup.___________________________________________________________

Add my vote of FULL confidence in LX hollowtech 2. No need for XT really its only a few grams.

If anyone has one, can they weigh the spider and bb, so we can see whether there is any weight difference between lx and xt other than the chainring materials.

Go look at some online shop. The XT is about 50grams if that less than the LX. There is hardly any difference in weight between any chainsets once you get over œ50. You have to spend like œ200 odd for an XTR or bontrager etc in order to save more than 100g over XT and a bit more over LX. Just save your money, get an LX and buy some lighter inner tubes, will be far lighter overall!

I got a hollowtech LX crank from CRC for œ35 IIRC and LX BB for œ20. More than light enough for me, and cheaper than the hollowtech II.
My LBS refaced my BB shell as part of rebuilding my entire bike, which they charged me œ45 in all for.
They said they would have refaced and installed they BB and crank for œ20.
so there ya go

what about FSA V drive which looks to be hollw aswell

KEEPING IT REAL RIDING STEEL0 -
ive got xt on the reign: excellent
ive got raceface on the stumpy: excellent
ive got lx on the p7: excellent and a true bargain (50 quid inc bb from wiggle)
to be honest, i cant tell the difference between any of them except for the looks (i reckon the raceface are the best looking cranks out there)
i wouldnt spend the extra on xt for the sakes of a few gramms. you could always have one less packet of crisps a week and save the same weight.

I know a little over budget but '06 XTR HT2 Crankset for £130 from Merlin! Too good to pass on IMO! Well, I just ordered one....

I've just fitted an LX HT II crankset to my new build. Haven't ridden with them yet, but they look great and are very easy to fit.0
