Weight/muscle gain drinks...

ok, hitting the gym 4 times a week, with a structured weights plan (as well as fitness), but as I'm naturally thin, the gains are limited.

Would you avoid high protein muscle gain drinks at all cost is used correctly with a correct weight programme?

I have put on over half stone in muscle (including lost fat from the exercise) so the general work out in reaching its limit.

I'm unsure.

Would it be worth me using Protien stuff if I do like; 70 Press Ups, 150 Situps, 20 Pull Ups. All reapeted a couple of times and then freeweights?

I don't get much spare time so can't go to a Gym or anything usually a a one day break inbetween.

Depepnds what you use really. Creatine is supposed to bulk your muscles but its not nutritious like protein shakes claim to be. Protein drinks will give you calroies and protein (never expect that would you!?) and help you to gain weight but unless your working out regulaly its quite easy to just get fat off them. As I said there is stuff available such as creatine but you need to be careful with it as its the kind of stuff that is associated with stomach cramps and sickness/shakes but if used correctly its not been proven to cause any problems. In the case of creatine you're looking at 3-4 weeks on the stuff and 2 weeks off, like I said because of potential problems also your body would get used to the creatine intake and it wouldn't effect you as much. Protein drinks are pretty dam safe and don't have loading phases or anything like that they're just for weight gain. If you're going to start doing serious supllements check with your doc first.

depends on how long you have been doing that. if you can do it easily now then no. but if its challanging for you then yes. you need to constantly challange your muscles for them to grow. protein helps them to do that.
If you weigh 11 stone you need to consume 140 grams of protein a day for your muscles to grow. Creatine (which is in cyclone) gives you more energy to work harder and do those extra reps which will help your muscles grow

Press ups and pull ups are hard as are the wieghts. I could benefit from just some fat as well.

you need to up your calorie intake not your fat intake. try to eat 6 small meals a day with protein being the main part of those. the key is eating little and often rather than big meals

with the weights low reps but a high weight will build strength (3-5 reps, 4 sets. you can JUST finish the last set) but medium reps and a medium weight will get definition (8-10 reps, 3 sets. again you can JUST finish the last set).

make sure you rest 30-60 seconds between sets and 2-5 before exersizes

I find that a big mac meal 3 times a day and watching at least one boxset every 2 days is doing wonders for my health....

    You guys are sad.

Stop spending all your time on weights and exercise programes and go and do something. Lifes to short to spend in the gym.

try to eat things like fish, chicken, turkey, lean steak and brown rice and pasta for energy. avoid white pasta and rice and try to eat some protein as soon as you can after a workout (this is were protein shakes come in handy)

and always, ALWAYS have breakfast! it will make a massive difference

Creatin and whey proteins are what you want.
Creatin is an amino acid which aids with muscle production and whey protein is what it says on the tin.
You'll need to take both on a daily basis, but it can be up to 50% more effective then working out alone.

I'd imagine that taking "supplements" and weight training for no useful end is just as bad for your health as eating crap food.

Personally I think going to the gym is for unimaginative and vain people, with the exception of serious atheletes.

or because you think going to the gym is a good use of your time?

Going to the gym is a good use of time. With their sedentary lifestyles, most non weight-trainers have literally dozens of muscles that are in a permanent state of disuse, especially in the shoulders and back. Weight training wakes them up, keeps them in shape, increases their strength and reduces the likelihood of injury when you have to go to the garden centre to get 75 litre bags of compost or some other heavy item.

I could go on, but I won't bother. Be weak, if you so desire.

Im not arguing that going to the gym isn't useful, clearly it is.

Most peoples goals at the gym are cosmetic, they are not there for fitness or to toughen up for the garden centre, I find that just plain vain, if you dont do much exercise and eat crap then be fat, I think your body should reflect what you get upto in life not how many hours you spend down the gym.

I'd leave the act of repeatedly lifting dead weights to robots and kids in sweat shops.

Yes, but for people who are naturally skinny, and can't seem to gain muscle no matter what else they try, it's very useful. And it's quite unhealthy to be underweight, so going to the gym will hopefully bring you up to a good weight.

Chill guys. If all you do is go to the gym to have a hot bod, who are we to say you're wrong? If it brings people pleasure and happiness, why not?
Besides, a bit of body strength wont go amiss on the trails.

One thing i will say about weight training is this; be clear of its sustainability. If you stop working out, your muscle will dissappear fast. The body doesn't maintain muscle you are not using. Don't think that if you go to a gym for 12 months, you will keep the extra muscle for life, basically.
Creatine: a lot of missconcenptions. It basically re-phosphorylates ADP -> ATP in your muscles so you have a renewed energy source. Only really useful for short, explosive bursts of energy, since your body still needs to mobilize actual energy sources from elsewhere in your body.

I use LA Muscle shakes and creatine.

I also use other supplement like multidextrose and l-glutamine.

If you want to bulk out, use something like Weider bulk builder or something.

I can't go to a gym, just way too monotonous. My mate who's a personal trainer uses protein shakes after a training session or a ride, but they are instead of a meal, so not really supplements to his diet.
