Camelbak bladder

Just got a camelbak and am looking to know what i need to do with the bladder before i use it in terms of sterilising it?
I've read that people just rinse them out when there done and stick it in the frezer, i take it its just the bladder you put in, its just the tube that attaches to the bladder seems very hard to get off?
p.s Would i not be a good idea to put a sticy up somewhere about what to do with your camelbaks as there seems to be a new post about them every week.

Eh? To be honest, you could sterilise it before you use it but I've never heard of ayone bothering and I've never bothered and I'm still here. You do ride on dirty dirt, do you?
As for cleaning, the tube does come off with some 'gentle' persuasion and you can buy a very effective brush from Camlebak to clean out the black gunk for an extortionate price.0 -
What i ment was do you need to do anything to it or can you just using it stright away0

I just rinse out my camelbak bladder too and don't sterilise it.
Mine is the type with the large opening at the top so it's pretty easy to clean.
It's probably a good idea to sterilise camelbak bladders and get all the cleaning bits but I just make sure I clean mine out after each ride.
Suppose it depends how easily you pick up bugs but I have what has been described to me as a horrible northern diet so I'll take the risk of not sterlising my camelbak.Dave S0 -
mines got the large opening as well, i'll just rinse it out then, do you store yours in the fridge or freezer as i have heard people that say both, thanks0

I have the large opening one two. After every ride I rinse it out with water, and pass some water down the the tube to clean it and mouthpiece. Every three or so rides I'll wash the inside with a sponge/washing up liquid to give it a proper clean. Sometimes I get lazy and leave drink in it for a few days but this doesn't seem to do it any harm.
PS: Don't buy the rip-off Camelbak drying kit. Instead, just tie it upside down to something (eg shower rail) with a bit of string around the tube/bladder connection. Then put a big sponge inside the bladder, it soaks up any water and holds it open to let it dry. Works perfect

I just rinse mine out and freeze it! Works a treat. Milton sterilising fluid can be bought in tablet form if that makes life easier - I guess you could fill the bladder with water and drop a sterilising tablet inside. Personally though, unless you're susceptible to infection or the bladder is particularly dirty I wouldn't bother.0

think i'll go with the rinse it and freeze it method, just have to get that bloody tube off...0
