  • Personally I'd get some Mavic XC717's on XT hubs from MerlinCycles.co.uk, approx œ120

Or if you can afford it Hope Pro II hubs instead of the XT's

    Agree with the tyres though.

I was looking at the XC717 rims as they do look very nice too. I think the Hope Pro II hubs are abit too expensive, the rear hubs something like œ140.

  • Nothing wrong with XT hubs (mine are 12 years old and still going strong)

    Go with Mavic rims though.

Ok i had a look at merlin cycles site and picked out these bits

    MERLIN WHEEL KIT
HUB CHOICE + KIT PRICE - HUB CHOICE = KIT PRICE: XT DISC HUBS œ145
RIM CHOICE - RIM CHOICE: XC717 DISC BLACK +œ6
SPOKE CHOICE - SPOKE CHOICE: DT BLACK DB SPOKES +œ16
CASSETTE TYPE - CASSETTE TYPE: LX 9 SPEED
TYRE CHOICE - TYRE CHOICE: PANARACER FIRE XC PRO 2.1 KEVLAR +œ15

    Price: œ182.00

Im assuming thats both front and rear, there was two sets of XT hubs on CRC site so im hoping they would use the M756 hubs in 32h

Remember to get rim tape if you don't have any. Other than that those wheels look nice, although personally I prefer silver wheels.

Merlin cycles do excellent wheel builds.

Couldnt find any summer specific tyres that i really like, it was a choice between the Panaracer Cinders or Fire XC Pro

The fire xc pro are the best bet then. I have had these and found them very good. Brilliant value. Just ordered my wheels from merlin now aswell!
