More decisions with DMR Rythm, upgrade or new bike

If youve read my other forum in the past month-ish. you probably know im trying to upgrade my 06 DMR Rhythm, and ive come to the conclusion that it might be worth saving for a new bike, rather than upgrading it. heres why

My current bike, DMR, has a few problems:

- crank is starting to creak and rust/wear and getting old (DMR Crisis)

- pedals wearing and bearings going

- tyres are worn, new ones will be needed in a few weeks

- wheels are slightly buckled, and could also do with replacing.

- i want a different colour, model and newer frame

- i am trying to upgrade some parts to flash up my bike a bit anyway

and all of this just made me thought, is it worth getting a new bike, i can have about œ600 in 1 month and about œ700 in 2 months, so i was thinking about a spec for a new bike, and wondering if you brainy bunch thought it is an ok idea. heres the spec of a proposed new bike:

- dmr ltd etd. seat
- any pedals
- any jump bars
- atomlab stem ( œ20 one)
- halo combat or tornado or sas wheels
- manitou splice forks (i know youre going to kill me for saying that[V] ) lol
- open minded on frame still, was looking at dmr sidekick, 24 seven slacker, etc etc (prefer tube frames)
- Hayes cable disc brake, probably mx 2 gx 2 etc
- gusset pygmy crank, or 24 seven one?
- halo spin doctor hubs
- dmr moto rt tyres

probably forgotten something, so let me know, and yes i would be building it up myself, not trying buy it.

sorry about the topic, i know theres alot of similar ones, but this one has got a slight twist, im not just asking what bike can i get for say œ600 for eg.

thanks

dan

just make your dmr better, its fun, 600 quid will fix all of those thing any way, except the paint maybe. On the other hand it sounds like you REALLY dont like it, but maybe thats becuase you just want the best bike out all time, which is never going to happen

I would do it up than buy a new one. Imagine how good you could make it by spending œ600 - œ700 on new bits and pieces!

    what about buying
    pigmy cranks (or sim)
    new forks (DJ 1s/2s)
    ex721s on pro2s
and some new tiers with the œ700 for your existing bike?

Or you could do your Ryhthm up and with the extra money buy a cheap bike and do that up to.

the œ600-œ700 pounds includes selling my current bike for œ275 - œ325

so in a month to 2 months i would only have œ300 is to do up my bike, or...

œ600-ish to get a new bike, sorry for the confusion.

does that change anyones thoughts? or not ???

Right, So your saying that if you sell you Rhythm for œ275- œ325 and then earn œ300 you will have about œ600 - œ700..

Ok, Sell your Rhythm and buy a Flow Drift!

i saw one of them the other day...

they look good, but for the money, some of the parts arent great. the forks are only entry level jump forks, and the cranks and wheels are nothing special.

il still consider, but any other opinions please say.

    thanks, dan

ok then, what to buy with œ300 for it...? considering i mite have a bit more than œ300 because i can seel for example my wheels, before i get new ones. so if wheels wud cost œ150 they wud only be about œ100 cos i cud prob get œ50 for my current wheels etc etc same with most components.

thanks u guys, a real help as per usual.

ok, youve gotta buy the stuff you need/want most first. by the sounds of it that is wheels, so what wheels do you like? IIRC you said you liked white halo sas' a few topics ago, and you could probably get them for 150, considenring you dont need new tyres 'cause your are already 24 and im guessing they are diggers? so pretty decent aswell

yes, i supose i could also get some of the parts metioned in the first post which i was going to get for my "new bike"

    so IMO would get:
    - halo tornados (in a previous topic someone said they would be better than SAS because they lighter and juat as strong)

    - new dmr rt tyres, my current moto diggers are pretty worn.

    - new seat, dmr 10yr limited edt. one

    - a fork upgrade, but im rli not sure what, i really like the manitou splice forks, but i know you lot will hate them and tell me to save up for something else.!

so what are the opinions on that?

Or wait and do that later

If you shop around you wil always find things cheaper - I'm about to buy some DJ3s brand new for œ130, and they are bolt-thru as well, which is what I want

You can get Tornados for œ150, which is what I will be doing pretty soon

As for cranks, plenty of choice - have you thought about Hones?

ye, i was thinking about a frame respray earlier aswell, but, has anyone had it done before, what is the result and how much was it. i also woildnt want to decrease the frame value to much either, which im afraid it might.

also any other opinions on what to do/buy with about œ300 for my bike?

    thanks

As I said, DJ3s for œ130, Tornados for œ150, then save for a little longer and get some Hones or something for œ80
Don't know anything about frame resprays though

aslong as you dont get your name sprayed on it or something it wont decrease the value, and after getting the wheels you will have about 150 left, so look for cranks, look on alamsbmx

oki dokey, i think i might look at getting in done in matt black by someone. argos raacing was mentioned earlier, is that anything to do with normal argos, how much do they normally charge and aftre that if it doesnt cost to much, i will get a new set of pedals, new wheels or forks, not sure yet. and new tyres.
on the tyre front, im looking for something for bit of sreet, bit of loose/wet mud, but mostly dry/dusty mud, and i was looking mostly at dmr moto rt, moto diggers, halo twin rails, and maxxis holuy rollers...? (24") any views on them?

    thanks, dan

oh and if i were to get forks, what manitous are ok for dirt jumping and free ride. i know none are great but i like the style and colour and RTWD on the splices...?

    anyway, thanks

my other recent forums i have posted, there have been a few in the past month, about what to do with my bike, and how im considering upgrading/selling it etc etc.

and topics can probably be found if you search me as a user, and look through my topics. but i only put, if you have seen my recent topics, not go and look at them.
