What is a pikey? Never used/heard that phrase in Scotland before.

It means irish gypsy types.
Not new age travellers, and not hippes.
We used to get a few round here, and most of them were actually pretty friendly.

However, some uneducated morons now believe that pikey=chavs.

I used to work with an old boy called Bill, who grew up working on the farms, he used to call pikey/gypsys diddly-mushes, it always made me laugh

he also used to call hedgehogs hedgemichaels, that used to make me laugh too
