Just started raining here after a blisteringly hot week.
The rain landing in the car park is turning to steam! haven't seen that in a long time roll on global warming[:D]

oh yeah, more rain, but warmer too. We usually cheer if it reaches 20 degrees C in the summer here! I wouldn't mind a bit more rain if it got as warm as last week more often!
I just haven't seen instant steam in a long while.
(the global warming thing was toungue in cheek, by the way!)

Ditto.
And global warming wont nessisarily make it warmer here, if the gulf strem stops/moves we could find ourselves with canadian style winters.

Ooh, that would be good too.
I'd forgotten about thw whole gulf stream thing.
The gulf stream would stop, if the ice caps melt to such a degree that they change the amount of salt in seawater beyind some certain degree, right?

Basically we get off quite well to the whole global warming thing (unless you live on very low flat land).

Hasn't there been mention recently of the actual magnetic poles moving (very quickly, and all of a sudden)?
That would bring about a massively different climate, over about 2 or 3 years.

The magnetic poles have been moving constantly since the earth was created...

global warming from the greenhouse effect is a big scam, the earth has constantly heated up and cooled down, its just a natural cycle. green house gases may not be helping, but 30 years they were affraid of global cooling.

Oh, I know that. But there was something on Nat Geo recently, where they reckoned there was a chance that the poles may well suddenly switch.
Well, not quite switch, it was something along the lines of...
First, the poles would very briefly 'dissapear' leaving the earth with no magnetic field.
Then, they'd reappear somewhere totally different.
Can't remember exactly where they reckoned the new poles would be, but I think the south pole was meant to be over affrica, or something bonkers like that.

I'm not sure if it's a big scam or not, but I'm certainly not blindly believing it either.
The argument is that CO2 was being produced at a rate that was almost exactly balanced out by the absorbtion of it by the oceans.
Our relatively small increase in CO2 (and other 'greenhouse' gasses) has just slightly tipped the balance, so that more is being released than is being absorbed.
Unfortunately (they say) this also causes a feedback effect, which means that the oceans are able to absorb les and less CO2 (can't remember the exact reason why), and whatever it is that causes this oceanic change also results in more CO2 being produced.
So, scam or not, that seems to be their official line.
I personally don't think that it's fully understood yet, but the press jump on any sensationalist story.
However, one thing that is suposedly true, is that when they grounded aircraft after 9-11, the states got hotter, because the exhaust of jet planes was no longer blocking the sun's rays (global dimming)

They *could* theoretically flip although I can't see how they could just suddenly change position completely.
