build project - opinions please!

hi guys,
have been in the market for a new bike for a while now, looking for somethin to piss about on doin dirt jumps an a bit of XC. i found a kona stuff '07 frame on t'internet for œ150 an was thinkin of buildin my own set-up, was just wondering what the general opinion of the forum is - can i put together a fairly nice set-up (average fork, LX/XT groupset etc) for less than œ650, equalling œ800 which is how much the bike would cost to buy complete?? the full bike comes with alivio all over it, hayes hfx-9's an a Marz fork. What do you think?

It will cost you more if you get the same components bought separately, that's obvious! But if you want it to be different there's no other way of doing it and it's better and cheaper to build it up than to buy the whole bike and then upgrading.
