What car is it going on?
They can work, but can also do lots of damage.
e.g. a vauxhall corsa engine gets so hot, the kit will just suck in hot air, performance will go down and forgot whats it called but a sensor jams up.
but then some cars it works well

Disconnecting the battery for a little while should do the trick? Not familiar with jetting?
It's a an old type megane, 1.6, 8 valve. Same engine as an older saxo vtr IIRC, if someones familiar with those.

By induction kit, I assume you mean cone filter and something to replace the current air box?

do you want the engine to work correctly?
if it lets more air in then the programs that are in there or the jet sizes will not be correct any more.

you could take off the stock airbox and fit a new induction kit. if there is a problem with heat in the engine bay, then you could fit some air vents on the bonnet. air vents would also make you go faster because it brings in cool air, reduces the air pressure under the bonnet and basically sucks you to the ground a bit more.0

new freerider, i'd rather not put air vents in the bonnet, it's a renault megane! Even if it does suck me to the ground[:D] And nick, cheers, makes sense.

That happens to alot of cars with induction kits as they have inadiquate (sp?) Heat sheilding and not enough cold air feed.
My Elite!0 -
they dont have to be huge, you only need small ones, my mate has a 1.6 escort and in the middle the bonnet rises slighty and he put really small vents on either side and it works brilliantly0

They do nothing to the down force.

go put the escort in a wind tunnel and you will then see why you are talking crap.

im not talkin crap because my mates dad's a mecanic and he does racing at the weekend. i help out some times. and it does make a slight difference to the downforce, its got something to do with the air pressure under the bonnet or something like that0

May i ask, why you want an induction kit?
Is it the noise ? tiny gain of bhp?
why not go with a K&N panel filter to go in your standard airbox ?
<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">
he might as well get a cone filter because getting rid of the airbox saves quite a bit of weight depending on how big it is0 -
nope it does not. all that most likely happens is air above the hood get pushed into the engine bay. if you want to pull air out of the engine bay you want to be doing it from behind the front wheels. if you want air into the engine bay try from infront of the wind screen.

ROTFLMAO
Thats the biggest load of tosh I've read in a while, that and your first post.
Junking the OEM airbox and bolting on a cone filter to the throttle is a waste of time. All they do is make lots of noise and drag in warm air, so you lose power.
You wan't a cold air feed to the throttle with a filter inline.
OEM Ecu's are self learning, so use sensors to calibrate the correct engine map, unlike carb fed engines which need to be fettled to give the correct fuel/air mix.
