don't buy one of those glossy pamphlet-type 'route guides' such as you get from bike shops for about a fiver, they are a rip off and are severely lacking in necessary detail. You need an OS map really if you don't know the area.

I've just ordered an Ordnance Survey map and am planning on plotting a route with that.
a good site for ready to print maps on CD is http://www.bikemaps.co.uk/
I have the dark peaks area CD and I think it's brilliant!

Local riders are also your best resource. Hook up with them for a couple rides and learn a couple loops. Then, once you know them you can start exploring off the normal route.

That's the reason i've bought an OS map... i've seen plenty of interesting looking paths off the beaten track...

Hi,
I'm from Dundee and also looking for local trails. If you find any could you pass them on?
Cheers.

Sometimes it overheats. You have to make sure it's in a ventilated place all the time.

If you live in South East or South West, you'd do worse than buy the Rough Ride Guides (NOT Roughguide). They come as a large folder with tonnes of info and my SE one has nearly 50 fully investigated and detailed routes to chose from. The front page of each route is a map, and the back has descriptions and tips etc. The pages are a thick waxy texture, so won't die on the first outing. I photocopy the ones I need, but they'd stand up well inside a map wallet or similar:

Or Ordnance Survey can send you a bespoke map of your area with your house/location as the centre. A yellow highlighter over all the bridleways is a good start to give you an idea of where to plan.0 -
