Hi, I have a trek 6000. The bike I have had for about 10 weeks, and it used to occasionally squeak.
But today I went down a steep tarmac hill and had to use the brakes neraly all the way down, and now when riding the bike it constantly squeaks, whether pedalling or free rolling.
Now if i mount the bike to my bike stand, it never squeaks. But as soon as I start to ride it, it squeaks. Doesnt just squeak with me on it, but anyone...
any suggestions, I have booked in at local bike shop but any suggestions as got to wait over a week before they can look at it.
Look forward to response,
Tom

could be anything. pads most likely rubbing on the discs due to hub bearings having bedded in and now need adjusting.

So hows this adjustable..easy to do?0
-
Would that be the case of only doing that when sat on the bike riding?0
-
read park tools on hubs. do as it says and then adjust the pads with the wheels on the ground.

well i had it checked after 5 weeks having it, but would it still be under warranty or likely to charge?0
-
Any one else have any suggestions?0

Take it to the bikeshop as you dont seem to have much of an idea about what needs doing, Basicly the hubs need adjusting but with your lack of knowledge they may end up too loose or too tight, The shop should do it free or very cheaply.
havent fallen off,
im just having a rest

Hi,
Okay, but is it correct you need official trek tools to be able to do work on it.0 -
Also, what type of hub does the trek 6000 have out of these?
Hub Overhaul (adjustable type)
Freehub Service
Dura-Ace 7800 Rear Hub Service
Coaster Hub Overhaul (Pedal Brake Hub)
Internal Hub Transmissions
Ceramic Bearings0 -
Depending how much you paid Id guess loose bearings, And you want a set of cone spanners and the information your looking for will be along the lines of 'Adjusting cup and cone hubs'

if you are asking you dont want to be doing anything. wait till it gets to the LBS and discuss with them.

Skip down to the part that says 'Bearing Adjustment and "Feel"'
Greed with Nick tho, Best to take it to the shop as its stil under warranty.

Right thanks for the advice, how long should it take them if this is the issue. is it a common issue?0
-
Also would this be classed as under warranty?0
-
nope just service or wear and tear.

It should take the LBS less than 10 mins, take it when you know they'll be quiet and they should be able to do it while you wait.

Hi again, just cleaned my bike and went dow my road (about 400metres) and it wasnt constantly making the squeaking noise, so its going to be difficult to explain to the bike shop if its intermittent. So is everyones opioin the headset or the wheel hubs?0
-
It's more than likely wheel bearings having moved, like nick said, but this should help you narrow it down a bit
Try free wheeling non-handed on some nice flat ground and see if it still does it.
If it does, I reckon you can rule out pedals, bottom bracket, loose bars and if you can stand up non-handed, probably anything to do with the seat too.
See if the rate of the squeak changes with your speed and direction of turn... my front bearing was loose the other day and it squeaked when turning tight. It was causing the disc to rub on the pad.
Saracen Mantra with Marzocchi MX Pro ETA\'s, 24-7 Silverstar pedals... and a map holder.0 -
Still squeaks when no weights on handle bars.0

Brilliant.... never thought of that before. Make sure its flat ground away from anybody though!0
