Hello all,

I have XCM SR Suntour forks and I have a chance of buying (second hand) some Manitou Splice Super forks for around œ50-œ60.

Is this a good upgrade? Are these compatible with a Mongoose Tyax?

Cheers

not a good idea. for many rasons. 1 they are manitou and you will have to change brake parts.

I have the same bike and forks and plan to upgrade to Rock Shox Revalations when i have the money. Manitou do make good forks but they can be unreliable. What condidtion are they in? Personally I would hold on untill you have enough money for Some Revaltions or all mountains or equivelents.

    Thanks guys.

Have you looked into a lot of forks before deciding on the Revelations? I'll look them up.

Is your bike the elite or comp (or whatever)?

Yep I have they fit the bill perfect. Ajustable travel 85-130mm So it wont affect the geomertry. They are strong all mountain fork sand get the best reviews.

manitous arent that bad, splice supers are way better than xcr's. Altgough, if you can save up, it would be a better idea.

What are you going to do with your old forks? Want to sell them?

Yeh probably wont get that much for them. But that won't be for ages yet. Why do you ask?

Because your forks are the ones that I should have got on my bike but for one reason or another I ended up with the ones below. The same as yours but without damping. So, I ask as I imagine that when you get your new ones your old ones wont really be of any use and also not really worth much either, so i'd be interested in taking them off your hands for you. Its been getting on my nerves for ages the fact that I ended up with the wrong forks.

That must suck, so you only have preload adjust and no damping adjust. I will send you an email through your profile when i get my new ones ok, But it will probably be near winter. Can i see a pic of your bike. Mines in my sig.

Yeah i'm just looking at the rest of yours actually right now. Ive not taken pics of mine yet, when i do, i'll give you a shout.

I dont understand forks all that much and dont really know what the preload adjust does. Do you find it makes a difference when you turn the dials?

It adds preload to the spring to make it stiffer but they are not that effective. My rebound adjuster works realy well though.

Can yours just turn and turn? I never know if they are set the same or miles away.

Should I be able to tell the difference between it being on and off by pressing down on the handlebars to check the fork movement?

They click as you turn them. They make the fork stiffer but you might not feel the difference. If you look at the little yellow thing inside the adjuster, when its right the way down so it is hardly visible means that is the max. Set both legs the same.

Ive just been in the shed and your tip about the yellow thing was very helpful.

Ive now set them the same. With the yellow thing at its highest.

So I can be sure, what does it mean when its at its highest? That theres not as much rebound? If so, is that what you should set it when youre only on road?

It means the forks are the soft as they will go when the yellow things is at top and when its at the bottom it means they are the hardest. Once there set just how you want them, just leave them and don't cahnge them.

    OK, thanks.

So its more a matter of preference than a matter of changing for the conditions.
  • if you can't afford revelations (which btw are fantastic), have a look at recons

My price range is more the Tora range than the Recons. Are Tora's good value?

How much are you looking at for labour in fitting a new set of forks?

Would Toras fit a Mongoose tyax?
