Tyre Choice

I still have the original tyres on my rockhopper, but I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on a better tyre for the summer hard rutted ground. Also being 17st I was told wider tyres may be better, currently they are 2.0" but was guided towards 2.3". Any advice?
I was also told that beaded tyres would be less prone to punctures than the foldable ones as standard on my bike.

Kenda K-rad tyres. They are for hard pack dirt so should be good for summer conditions.

As a heavier rider I think you would be better off with higher volume tyres with a stronger casing and definitely kevlar too.
Continental Vertical Protection 2.3s might be a good choice for you, I run them on one bike and they're very good allrounder tyres

Also consider Nokian DH tubes at least in the back tyre for added puncture protection, they're like rhino skin and I've only ever had one puncture since using them (and that was a nail right through the tyre so was unavoidable).
Intense also make some solid 2.3 XC tyres tooDave S0 -
see this months mag. For xc, the panaracer razer won it and the heavier duty test was won by the michelin reinforced xrc dry 2. The schwalbe racing ralphs are decent too. Although they are a bit pricey.
