Opinions on a possible build

Right I've been looking through my pile of spares in my garage, and i've come across a pair of forks, a set of cheap wheels, a crank set(missing a crank arm)a saddle, a pair of the integrated gear/brake lever,a set of v-brakes(front and rear) and grips

Am I right in saying that all i would need for a fully functioning bike is a frame,headset,crank arm,bar,stem,rear cassette and mech?

Would the Merlin Malt 1 frame and finishing kit be a suitable frame as it comes with the frame,headset and seat post.

is this a good idea, just as a second bike for when my STP isn't suitable?

any suggestions for mech and cassette? would deore be good enough for the use?

deores alright, it does the job no probs. Do it, it a project and youll learn to build a bike in the process. Youll find its very easy with the right tools.

run it single-speed?
saves buying and fiddling about with gears,less to go wrong as well - you can use it as a hack bike in the winter then, without having to worry about the gears clogging etc
