pro 2's are the best you can get, they are fairly cheap on here (scroll down) http://www.bestbuybikes.co.uk/offers.php?cat=6

The only bad thing that happens with pro 2s is when people choose a colour that clashes horribly with their bike. The spin doctors are good but not in the same league as the Hopes.

My front Pro 2 is the best hub I've ever had, by far.

  • Yer, i agree, if you can afford them, you can't get much better than pro IIs. If you intend to do any riding which exerts lots of pressure (ie 4x gate starts) then getting a steel free hub body would be worth while, as other wise the cassette digs into the body slightly and makes it difficult to remove. Contact Hope to get hold of one

All Hope hubs are great and Pro IIs are probably the best in the range.
That said, i thrashed Hope XC hubs for absolutely years with no probs even on a full-susser.
Get a decent wheel build from somewhere like Merlin Cycles or Stif with Pro IIs and Mavic rims and you won't regret it.

Everyone will hear you coming for the first couple of months too!
Spoke to a chap today who says go for the DT rims rather than the Mavics (Doh! Too late for me). After 18mths hard use the Mavics cracked around the eyelets. He's also seen rim splits on disc rims too. The DT rims and Hope hubs are going strong after 3 years tho!!!
My wheel buider said Mavics are better finished than DT's tho.

I saw a mavic rim that had split just after being built but the shop offered to upgrade the rim FOC (they also swapped the stuff back onto his old wheel whilst they built it up so he could still ride the bike)
