hi, sorry about the title of this thread but i dont know whats it called ill have to explain the problem but i dont know what some of the things are called im still new to mountain biking but here goes...

its between my stem and headset when ever i push forward on the bars or pull up or but the front brake on it slides forward then when i take my weight of it it slides back. the handle bars and everything stays where it should be ( its not the handle bars that turn) they kind off all slide forward. when i sit the bike upside and apply a small amount of pushing and pulling of my front wheel/ forks in a forward then back moition i can also see it "sliding" back and forward ill post a pic below with an arrow to the area of my bike in question. ive tightend everything i can see up in that area of the bike but its still the same.

You can't direct link to pix, the need to be hosted somewhere.

sounds like its your headset needs tensioning.

    check www.parktool.com for a HOW-TO

It sounds like your headset is loose, undo the stem bolts (ie the ones on the stem above the headset, not the handlebar end of the stem) then tighten up the top bolt (the bolt on the top of the stem pointing down through the headset) until the rocking stops but the fork still turns freely, then do up the stem bolts again. Should fix it. Also your link doesn't work, you'll need to upload the piccie to flickr or some other photo website. Worth reading for part names and general maintenance are sheldon brown and park tools repair guide If the above doesn't fix it, try and explain it a bit better once you have figured out what all the parts are, or take it to a local bike shop (lbs)

Always remember to pick your Uni according to the local trails or you'll be stuck with nowhere to ride for three years!
