Head Angles

Just looking on Norco website for 2006 Torrents, and it says the head angle is 65.5.

Isn't that a little slack?

norcos are slack as they are designed to go down hill not up.

Yes but most others are 67 degrees or more. Just thought 65.5 was very slack.

Well not all DH I suppose- some singletrack & jumps as well. Plus it does need to be ridden up some hills. No long rides or real XC though.

I'm looking at the 2006 Torrent which has a 66VF2 with 150mm travel and 65.5 head angle, or 2005 one which has a 66R 170mm travel and 67 degree angle.

well 71 degrees is the best angle with zero travel and every 24.5mm gives a change of one degree.

too slack for me for a dh bike.

In that case the 2006 one seems to be best. 2005 one comes out to about 74 with zero travel.

65.5 isnt THAT slack. The Orange 224 is 64 IIRC.

65,5 with a 150mm fork! the 224 has if you are correct 64 with 200mm fork.

I have a dmr switchback which has a head angle of 71 degrees. My top tube length of 22.5 and is designed to have forks 120-140mm or there abouts. I have Mx comps Eta 85mm.

What is this geometry saying?

So thats still almost the same,you just said that 24.5 mm is about one degree. So thats 50mm difference, with 1.5deg difference.
Its not incredibly slack. Unless im making a mistake.
I dont really know if half a degree would make a big difference, so dont flame me for this

my trailstar has a 71 degree head angle with 110mms. thats reasonably steep. Running longer forks makes the downs much more fun.

Head angle isn't everything, you need to think about rake and trail as well.

yeah, I only pointed it out as I'd never seen a bike with 65.5 degrees before.

I'm going for the 2005 Torrent with 67 anyway now.
