Carbon seatpost?

I have just had my bike nicked (GT Avalanche 0.5) but I managed to save the Cane Creek thudbuster lt http://www.canecreek.com/thudbuster_lt.html
Now I'm getting my new bike (lightspeed pisgah frame 2006) http://www.litespeed.com/bikes/2006/mtn/pisgah_.aspx the question is:
If I buy a light carbon seatpost (race face next sl) will it soak up the bumps compared with a thudbuster lt?
Thanks

Why would a seatpost soak up any bumps? (or do they?)

I actually managed the get the pisgah frame at 1/3 price (brand new too ). Even so, I am stretching my budget, but with that frame I want to do it justice.0 -

Well a thudbuster lt has 3" of travel so it actually moves with the bumps. With carbon fibre it is made of fibres locked in a resin which does not transfer shock well and is used in some high end bikes as a shock absorber. However I am not sure how well it does this, hence the post0 -
Well it might do a bit soak up some bumps, but not many compared to a thudbuster, if i were you, get a steel hardtail instead, youl never look back
- just realised thats a Ti frame! scap that ^ and the first fela right, to much money0 -

Buy a Ti post if you want similar properties to carbon posts but without the stigma that comes with them.
It will look great with a Pisgah frame too!

There's a stigma [:0]? How so?0 -
You will get a barrage of people telling you that you will have carbon shards rammed up your arse, etc.
Not seen it myself but plenty rumours are around.

Exactly, who cares if you can buy a pisgah, good for you, and nice bikes make me happy. I personally wouldn't buy a carbon post, maybe a silver thomson masterpiece, (cheap from aspire velotech also good for CK parts [;)]) Or a Ti post, i think the USE sumo is the best Ti post.
But as was highlighted above, the pigsah will be much more compliant than your avalanche so you might not need the extra weight of a suspost.

Why?
If hes going to the trouble of buying a Ti frame you might as well deck it out with top spec components.
Green eyed monster much?
I'd get a Thomson or maybe an Easton Carbon post.
