this might sound abit odd but im just wondering if there are any serious affects to overdosing on vitamin C. For the last 3 years or so i have been eating 3 large oranges and drinking alot of orange juice. Just glanced at the cartoon and realised it said 100ml contains 62% of RDA. I have been having nearly 1litre a day....
I think im going to turn orange
oh yeah btw its tropicana not crap like sunny D...

Nothing serious will happen. Too much vit C has a laxative effect though.

Vitamin C is fine, there are others you need to be careful with if you're taking lots of supplements though, google hypervitaminosis.

Isn't one of the vitamins supposed to give you cancer if you OD too much? (it wasnt C)

Sometimes it overheats. You have to make sure it's in a ventilated place all the time.

A moderate amount of Vit C has a laxative effect.
A large stupid amount can be potentially fatal ( as with anything)
I know this as I was in the same boat ages ago.

I can remember reading somewhere a while ago that having an excessive about for log periods of time can increase the likelihood of some cancers but they were talking about people have 3000mg+ per day for years and years.
I'd recon that you'd be OK, providing that it is part of a balanced diet oh, don't forget you home is at risk if you don't keep up repayments on a loan secured against it.0 -
Gingers have more vitamin D than normal hair. FACT
If you are worried ask a pharmicist or doctor or something

The body only uses what it needs in most vitamins and minerals, excreting the excess away as waste. Other nutrients the body adjusts it's metabolizm/usage of.
The MAJOR example of this is NICOTINE. Your body NEEDS nicotine to survive, in miniscule amounts, and gets it from some vegetables etc. HOWEVER, your body adjusts it's metabolizm to the anount it injests, and is why it is SO hard to give up smoking....
Food for thought...

If I were you, I'd be more worried about what the acid in all that concentrated orange juice was doing to my teeth than about how much vitamin C was in it.0

If you have been ingesting alot of vitamin C several times the amount reccomended and cut down to normal you'll know about it. You can actually get a kind of come down scurvy as your body gets used to being saturated with vitamin C. When you take the large volumes away its similar to cutting it out all together. So if your worried cut down on it slowly but then if your craving oranges perhaps its because you need the vitamin C
