Can anyone with a pro 2 rear hub give me an idea of how good the engagement is on them and also how loud they are. I'm thinkin of replacing my single track rims with Hope pro 2's, 20mm front and 10mm bolt up rear with mavic ex823 2007 rims as i'm a pretty hard riding guy.

Good engagement. Loud to the point where I use them to warn ramblers of my approach when I am about 30 metres away by free wheeling. They do encourage you to keep pedalling and thus get fitter though.

Pro 2s are some of the loudest hubs around. Im sure there are louder, but the Pro 2s are quality hubs, be it the 8/9speed cassette models or the singlespeed trials model. I fully intend getting a singlespeed pro2 when I decide to change my rear hub and have the money to do so.
The front hubs are front hubs, in that they look good, and are sealed. They roll smooth, take the beating, very good hubs.

i think that the engagement is NEARLY instantaneous, IIRC, there are 42 teeth inside the freewheel, so lots more than cheaper hubs. or i may be wrong.

if you run singlespeed on a pro11 rear can the aluminium freewheel be damaged by the pressure?0
-
the freewheel can be damaged but they make a steel one too so its no big worry, excellent hubs!0
-
Or you can use a single speed kit with a wide based cog like the gusset 66er.

kool...the more opinions the better as this will help convince myself to fork out 300 quid for my new wheelset (Pro 2's 10mm Rear 20mm Front on Mavic EX823 2007)

if you can, get the bulbs. Ti freehub, and IMO, they're better. [:D]

I have been running a pro2 front hub for around 10 months and they are awesome! I havnt serviced them or anything and they are still rolling sweet. And if your botherd about weight, they are pritty light.0

i found my pro 2 seem louder than my mates, i think the sound echoes/vibrates kind of through my frame. ace hubs though.

What difference does it make how loud it is?

The engagement is great on PRO II, it is better than shimano hubs, but not as good as say a CK. The singlespeed one comes with a steel freehub.
