PSU question

I think I may need a more powerful PSU. I currently have a 250W one and am running pentium D dual core 3.4ghz and 7600GS gfx. I occasionaly get BSOD's and I cant work out the problem but I suspect its cos of the PSU. Any recomendations for a cheapish 500W one?

Hyper PSU's are going quite cheap these days IIRC.

Sometimes it overheats. You have to make sure it's in a ventilated place all the time.

Don't buy a cheap one, they don't work nearly as well. Shell out 50-60 quid for a really good one, possibly with modular cabling, much better in the long run because your parts will last better with cleaner power rails.

Unless you're planning on upgrading that a lot further, you don't need 500W. A decent quality 400W will do you fine. Such as this

as matt says, unless you intend on sticking some really power hungry parts, or run lots of hard drives/fans. you only need a 400w.

Something round here tastes bad. Could be plain old bad taste.

What makes you think its the PSU?
How many drives have you got in there?

You can get a Tagan 380W cheapish (link)
I think 380W will be enough, I have a P4 prescott overclocked to just under 4Ghz, along with quite a few fans and other power hogging things, and a generic 400W one I have has been fine.

cheers for the recommendations. I dont know its the PSU, but it seems quite likely as 250W seems very low for a modern system. And I plan to upgrade the gfx card sometime in the future. And I will need a new HD fairly soon so might as well upgrade the PSU nowMBUK0

Yeh, the Tagan ones might do you good, they have a large capacity on the 12V rails which should be good if your adding more stuff. A 400W one should be sufficient, I wouldn't go below 380W though, just sp that your future proofed aswell and you will know that your PSU isn't bottlenecking your PC.
The Akasa range are quite good too.
Check, www.scan.co.uk they have very good prices and excellent customer service.
