Hope C2 disc brake problem

I am having a problem with the front disc brake on my bike. It's a Hope C2 brake. One of the pistons is out quite far and when I turn the thumbwheel on the lever it isn't moving it back in. I 've tried forcing the piston back in but it won't budge. Anyone any idea how to get the piston back in. Do I need to let some brake fluid out?

    did you top up the brake fluid while the pistons were out?

    have your brakes ever been bled/serviced?they could be in need of some attention

    I haven't put any additional fluid in. The brakes were bled and serviced bout 9 months ago.
