Newbie 'What Bike' question for a change :-)

Having looked through this and many other forums, I'm thinking of going for the Specialized Rockhopper Comp Disc.
However, is it worth for a first bike to get back into XC, is it worth going for an older top of the range bike for the same money, something like a '05 or '06 FSR XtC.
Is it worth going for an older bike and upgrading the forks as a start as this seems to be one of the key areas for a great ride.
thanks

i would go with an older bike it should be of the same quality and a fork upgrade would be worthwhile eventuallySTUFF \'N\' THAT0
