i have hayes 9's on my bike and was looking to upgrade the front disk, 7 inch at the moment, can i only replace it with a hayes disk or can i use a disk form another maker eg. shimano

It's best to use a Hayes disc, but if a Shimano disc is the same thinkness, it'll work.

i asked in my lbs about putting different disk makes with hayes brakes because someone said hope disks fit hayes 9's, but they said dont, it will fit but your better off getting the correct part, eg hayes for hayes, shimano for shimano etc.

I have V8s with my El Caminos and they are pretty nice - not had any problems so far and been riding with them for about 3-4 months now.

Hayes are weird because they measure their rotors in inches whereas most (all?) others measure them in mm. Hope do make some in inches though specifically for hayes sizing. 8" is 203.2 mm though so you could get a 203mm.

Never had any trouble with V8 rotors, used them for 2 years now and never any trouble. However, as stated above, what frame/fork have you got, as some won't take that size of rotor.

i doubt your forks/bike are warranteid for 8 inch as it will put extta force on them, meaning they "could" snap...
