Competitions- how do you enter?

Okay, I know this is a newb question to ask...

...next year, I want to enter some DH competitions. This year I'm preparing and training (in a way)

Was thinking of Aston Hill, PORC, UK BikePark and Chicksands sorta thing.

I have no idea how I would go about entering or what the basics are.

Is everyone that competes the next Steve Peat or is the bottom of the field average joes's with good experience and confidence?

I'm by no means the best rider, but I have done some good, testing rides and want to get further involved.
