Warning, barrage of questions approaching :
1)Are 'Mavic Crossmax SL Disc' the best choice for a fast fast light XC hardtail?
2)The 2007 are Front 685g,Rear 835g the 2006 are Front 770 g, rear 915 g , how noticable would the difference be?
3)I currently ride a specialized crossroads tyre so I can ride on road and off. Is there a good tubeless equivalent of this?
Thanks

1) No, the best choice for fast and light is to run V brakes, but for disc wheels it depends who you ask, many riders prefer custom built wheels. Also budget comes into it, but the Crossmax SL are certainly up there in the top choices.
2) Yes
3) Panaracer Fire XC tubeless is pretty fast on the road as well. I haven't tried many others but no doubt others will have opinions.

Urm, yes, they are excellent XC wheels. Pretty light for a pretty decent price really. And you will notice the 200g weight loss over the 2006 wheels.
As for tubeless tyres for road/off road use I would check out some of the XC racing tyres like the Panaracer Razor or the Michelin XCR Dry. They have low tread patterns so will be quick on the road but still grippy for dry trails.
