I have a Bighit that i built my self and i want to replace my QR revolver with a pro 2. I would like to get a bolted rear if possible to improve the stiffness of the back end but dont know which ones will work with my frame, can i get a 12mm? or maybe just the 10mm bolted?

oh yer and the spacing is 135 for anyone who didnt know[;)]

please help, any comments appretiated.

you'd need these in 12X135, you'd need to buy a pro 2 that will accept a 12mm axle. not really worth all the extra money mate, but hits arnt really flexy anyway, and you'd have to upgrade to 26" on the rear

  • Sorry, didnt mention that it was an 06 bighit so has 26" already

  • I have also considered a Lawhill rear hub because they are cheaper but they only come in 12mm. Is it there any axle that i can get for it so it will fit. does anyone know a website where i can get one?

The only way you'll get 12mm on a big hit is to upgrade the rear end/or get some custom dropouts made.
    So it'll have to be a 10mm.

The dropouts on Bighits are 10mm.
If you insist on putting a 12mm rear hub on the bike though, you will need an adaptor.
There are several companies that offer them, the one that comes to mind is the momentum axle by Azonic: Click Here
There is another company that do them, and they are slightly lighter but I can't remember who makes it.

I use on for my Chameleon, it has Horizontal dropouts, and I found with a large rotor and a standard QR Skewer the back wheel would slip.

Don't think there are any specific advantages, might be a bit stronger but the Momemtum axle is not light.

Other thing I'd say is that the ProII is convertable from 10mm to 12mm just by swapping out the internals, so you can buy one and then just convert it at a later date if you need.

Only downside being you have to hack out the bearings, which for some reason they dont like [8)]

I'd say go for the bolt up axle version.

  • Thanks for all the advice guys!

I think i'll go for the 10mm bolted pro 2 and then change to 12mm if necessary like dave suggested.

Never seem to have trouble removing the bearings.... Suppose there is possibility of slipping and taking large chunks out.

Have to admit, it's not a particularly elegant way of doing it!!!!!! [:)]

In general. when you tap the inner race to remove the bearing (which is pretty much what happens when tapping out an exle) it damages the bearing races. i knackered a set of bearings instantly when trying to fit them into a halo hub. i'll be buying proper tools for an axle change with my pro II [:)]

Aaaah... using the old trusty screwdriver then, hehe. I have nailed a few bearings using them, but they were already nailed so I didn't care.

Using the old bearings to tap the new ones in is good.
