hi people hope you can help me. im looking to buy a hardtail frame for i guess whats classed as aggressive cross country. im 5'11 and have a big build so want something that will take abuse when needed. most of the frames that i have found that look solid seem to be quite small. i.e around 14 to 15.5".
does anybody ride know if i bought one with a fairly long top tube if this would build up to be an ok bike to ride?
or does anybody have a similar sort of bike, i do like the small frame as they look more chuckable, but i might just be talking s#*t.
thanks for any help recieved.

I have a dmr switchback which comes in 16'' or 18'' im 6foot and big lad. These frames are marketed as a aggressive XC bike frame. People have had issues in the past of frame breakage's but thats because they have been used incorrectly. The people who broke them used the frame for DJ which is not what the frame was designed for. I have the 18'' version which is nippy and responsive. I think my top tube is around 22.5''

I'm about 5'11 and fairly sturdy and I ride a 19" Cove Stiffee for pretty much what you're describing. I went for the 19" 'cos I do ride longish distances, if it was more of a play bike I'd have the 17". Mine feels spot on for what I use it for though.

I'm the same height and ride a 19" Specialized doing exactly the same type of riding and it fits like a glove!

You will be wanting a TT length of around 23" me thinks. A bit under perhaps. The seat tube length is pretty irrelevent considering BB heights are different and you can always buy longer seatposts.

a smaller frame will be a tad stronger but of course the seat post will be under more stress. The slight bit of flex in a seat post may reduce vibrations in longer rides though
