Calling Kona Fire Mountain owners

Thinking very strongly about getting one looks an absolute stunner to me, without screaming STEAL ME like the some of the GT's I know its not the best speced in the world but im not the best rider in the world so we should get along just fine.
Just wondered if anyone rides one or has riden one what they thought about it. Going to go for the 18" , I'm 6'1 so borderline 20" but get the smaller for better handling from the smaller wheelbase, good idea?
Anyway. For those of you in the know:
How has it lasted? Anything i should note about it? Don you love it/hate it? and why?

Don't buy a bike based on other peoples opinions. Go and ride one.
Its fairly below average specced, but its not terrible. Got some respectable makes on it.

my mate hired a fire mountain. he said it was pretty good but the forks were too soft for his weight. he's about your height and not fat...STUFF \'N\' THAT0

I have a 2004 Fire Mountain. Given Kona's slow-evolving design process, I can't imagine the frame geometry has changed a great deal since then.
I'd definitely recommend it as a beginner's bike. I started riding MTBs the better part of 3 years ago now and I still love riding it, even though I have a much higher spec full susser. Obviously a budget hardtail is never going to be especially fast over seriously bumpy terrain, but get it on a fairly smooth, twisty bit of singletrack and it's magic.
Try and test ride both sizes if you can, but I'd be inclined to go with the 20" model, to be honest. I'm 5'11 and my old 19" model fits perfectly.0 -
My Dad has an 06 Fire Mountain. He doesnt exactly ride, but he enjoys some of the hard XC routes what me and some of my mates like to occasionally hit.
The forks are okay for him, best mechanical brakes ive ever used or had a go with and cranks are pretty sweet.
I'd say its more of a starter bike, or the sort of bike that would only get used once a month.
Wouldnt be toooo good for every day use.

Hi
I`ve got an 06 fire mountain cant really fault it, use for the commute and canals, last weekend did the FOLLOW THE DOG route at cannock only thing that really needs upgrading is fork (to soft/slopy) the brakes arent to bad if you keep adjusting them. However pad wear is silly 500 miles for the front ones so buy sintered!!!!!!0 -
Both my parents have 8(ish) year old fire mountains. They are decent bikes, still and have lasted well over the years.
