However, for the riding that Beth will be doing, on road, it will be fine. I'm giving it a look over properly next time I'm up there, and if there's anything in desperate need of replacement, I have enough bits to replace them, probably. For free, it's fine for her. If she gets more seriously into riding, I'll be able to sort her out with some nicer bits and upgrades.

There us absolutely no point in upgrading that bike. Do what you have to to keep it on the road, but why upgrade it?
If kitty gets to the level that you feel she needs upgrades, it'd be more effective just to get her a second hand hard rock or something.

You know it's still ride-able now really, I've rode it the last couple of summers around town. It gets me from place to place, but if any of you have bikes to offer me for free I'll accept, I haves no money, well I do but it's for Uni locked away with my Mother.

And the name makes sense to me for anyone who's complaining.
