Measuring fork steerer

how would i go about measuring the length of my fork steerer.
i have a 2006 spech P2 and if anyone knows the length of the steerer or the forks that come with the bike, i'd be grateful (Dirt Jam Pro Sls)
i'm not that much of a bike mechanic, so im not going to risk screwing up my bike by taking out the forks and no being able to put it backc in.

A ruler? Tape measure?
Just measure from the top of the fork crown to the top of the steerer tube.

Sometimes it overheats. You have to make sure it's in a ventilated place all the time.
