Ok, looking to lighten up my bike a bit, where you think I should start? Please note im 15.5 stone, and a bodybuilder, so im gonna get heavier - so need parts to be quite strong

Bike is in sig

Well it depends, strip your bike down and realistically work out where you can lose weight, common areas are saddles and posts/stems. Also rotational mass counts more than static mass, so look at your wheels. An air fork is a good thing as well, but thy cost more and some people don't like the way they feel in long travel guises. after that, it is ti bolt kits etc. losing peanuts in weight, often buying a carbon/ti frame is a good way to go, but you will put the frame under a lot of stress.

dont waste your money on saddles, seatposts, stems and ti bolts that will only lighten your wallet. Wheels and tyres could help, I dont know much about your bike but I suspect the frame is fairly heavy, that would be the logical thing to change.

i agree with paul the best thing to do first is to lighten spinning parts e.g. wheels and tyres. apparently it gives a bigger effect on how light the bike is.

Lighter tyres, tubeless, lighter wheelset, then move onto bars, seat post, saddle, forks etc. the places to save weight all depend on how hard you ride. carbon bars would be great on a real lightweight xc bike. but if you like doing jumps/drops on routes, you could quickly find yourself with a stem where your nose should be.

Wheels / Tyres, forks, then you get into the little stuff, bars, seat post, saddle, bolts, etc. You have lights on the bike, ditch them for starters!

It's not worth trying to lighten that bike up... it's well-built and sturdy and will stay in one piece. You could go for some v light wheels/tyres and put up with breakages/rips/flats on a regular basis. You could spend a lot of money on things like stems/bars to save in the region of 400grammes but that would be silly. You could change your frame to a nice light carbon hardtail but then you have to fork out on some lycra and legwax too.

Leave it, ride more and enjoy the bike!

If you are 15.5 stone of muscle then surely you can handle a heavier bike, and that bike looks pretty lightish.

I use SPD's now, I have considered going for a full XTR groupset on it.

TBH I have been considering going bacl to a hardtail, as I feel the full sus has taken me away from the riding a bit, if you know what I mean, the Rock lobster TI frame with RS SID Team forks has caught my eye - anyone know much about this frame?

The SID teams will not suit you, I guarantee it. They are flexy under 9st racers but with a 15st body builder they are going to be like jelly.

Buy all means buy the frame and fork deal, at œ600 it is a steal, but sell the forks and get some Rebas instead.

Putting a full XTR groupset on would be an excellent way to save as much weight as possible whilst getting all the performance upgrades as well.

    1) Take the gay mudguards off.
    2) Loose the lights and 2KG battery... and go for metal halide with Lithium Ion
    3) Buy a hardtail
