is it the shock? take it back to the shop and get them to check the bike over.

  • It makes the noise when the shock is compressed, my wife has the same shock and the squeak from hers is worse! This leads me to think that it can be sorted and not a fault as such. Although i know nothing and am guessing!

I'd check the suspension linkages before having the shock looked at.

Your linkages are where your shock joins onto your frame (top & bottom of your shock), and where the back end of your frame pivots on the front end, all the moving bits of your frame itself basically. Look out for the bushings on all your pivots being worn out, or anything that doesn't quite look right.

  • Thanks very much for your help, i'll check it out this weekend.
  • I (or rather my bike) developed an embaarassing creak from around the rear shock at the weekend and it turned out to be loose bolt on the rocker link. I tightened it up and its been quiet as a mouse ever since.

Could be many things but here's another you can check.

Where the spring meets the preload tension colar there can sometimes be rubbing between the two when it compresses. Some rear shocks put a big thin rubber washer in there to prevent squeaking/creaking/etc. If it doesn't have one you could try adding one.

Another that i ran into is the shock eye bolt can bend then it doesn't pivot smoothly around the bent bolt and causes creaking.
